Community Engagement Coordinator

Mill Road Community Space/ Espace Communautaire Chemin Mill,

We require a super smart, socially aware student admin assistant, official title: Community Engagement Coordinator. Ideally you are a Chelsea resident familiar with all the amazing things and groups that make Chelsea so great.

We need help with communications, tenant relations, events, web content, and all around big, big plans. We are a new community space focussing on creating a vibrant, shared space within the Grace United Church on Mill Road in Chelsea.


Tasks and Responsibilities:
 working with board on strategic planning for organization; participate in board meetings, help facilitate board retreat and strategic planning exercise
- draft work plan for organization
- develop key policies for organization ie. communication, financial etc.
- develop marketing materials and tools for the organization :social media, mailing list, website, flyer, press releases, tenant newsletter
- community liaison - working with community organizations to promote their activities and develop community programming to respond to community priorities
- support the implementation of the building enhancement project
- work with tenants/clients of the organization to evaluate their needs for using the space
- design and carry out a community outreach strategy

Supervision and Mentoring:
- in terms of supervision the student will have one focal point from the board to report to who will approve the student's work plan and  provide direction, feedback and evaluation
- the student will define their learning goals for the position and work with a mentor from the board and have mentoring and coaching bi-weekly to work towards their learning goals


Bilingualism preferred.

30 hours per week/ 6 weeks/ $12 per hour Start date June 1, 2015 (flexible)

What Makes You Laugh?

A unique offering for creative minds presented by Kate Hurman and Make Work Theatre.

A two-week theatre camp for ages 13 and up.

Remember that time you made your friend laugh so hard that milk came out her nose? Imagine laughing that hard for two weeks! "What Makes You Laugh" is a summer camp like no other - comedy and improv, skill-building and sessions in voice, movement, soundscape, writing, research and special missions. Find out what it takes to turn an idea into a scene, then a scene into a performance – and make an ENTIRE AUDIENCE laugh until milk comes out their noses.*

*milk not included.

July 13 - 24 or Aug. 17 - 28, 10 am - 4 pm

Kate Hurman and Make Work Theatre

Kate is an award winning professional actor, director, writer and teacher with over thirty years of experience in the field of theatre creation. She has worked for theatres across the country including the Stratford Festival, the Citadel, MTC, TFT, the NAC, and GCTC. She has taught drama and voice at the college and university level including the University of Ottawa, St. Lawrence College and Algonquin and to students of all ages at the Ottawa School of Speech and Drama, and in the public and private educational systems. Make Work Theatre develops new work for the stage and educational opportunities in theatre with elementary and high schools students.

This one-week theatre camp for children ages 8 - 12 explores the dynamic storytelling of myth creation.

A theatre camp that puts kids in charge! Create your own tribe and make your own rules, then put on a performance to introduce your "people" to the rest of humanity.

How to Build A People - Ages 8 - 12 - $250 (HST incl.)
